I agree with you Gerald, that is amazing? They also had more hits than CA in the game before that one and lost. Oh well, it is probably time these kids get back to their formal education anyway...these things drag on too long! But I agree with you, these games were much more interesting than the pros!

How can you loose a baseball game when your pitcher gives up one hit? Well it was a good long ride and being in the final four is an honor that they will not soon forget. Congratulations "Cardiac Cajuns" watching your games was better than watching major league baseball.

Looks like LA has just as good a chance to get this one as FL does! We might be on the NW quadrant of this one...so we could get lots of rain. It formed too close to land to be TOO dangerous. However after it emerges into the Gulf after crossing FL, it could build strength!!!

Betty since "fools rush in where angels fear to tread" I take a stab at your question! A while back there was a restaurant on the Northside called Auberge Oliver! The translation given was Oliver's Inn. So I would guess that an Auberge is an Inn!

J.J. glad to hear from you. I'm happy all went well with the surgery. The pain will go away shortly, but keep the pain pills handy. GERALD, Lau'Berge (I know I'm not spelling this correctly) doesn't mean that. Anyone else care to guess? I'll tell you the meaning in a few days. Henrietta must not be reading this!!!!!!!!!! I came out all right. I am still shaky as only three days and night of on morphine can leave you. It still hurts and will continue to hurt for quite while. It will be while before I can get to the beaches on Grande Isle. It there is any good that can come from this (other than being cured); it is that I cannot lift more than 8 pound for 8 weeks. Lita loves this. I think that Marshal’s talk with the boss helped. Thank you Marshal. Will make private thanks to the boss.

Tuesday night at 6:30, Lafayette time, we will face possibly the best team in the the USA, San Diago, California. Their last pitcher struck out 18 tieing a Little League record. That's the bad news, the good news is we are going to the simi's which means we are one of the top four teams in the USA. Considering the number of teams that's incredable. I believe L'auberge du Lac means the barge on the lake. The casino is floating but the hotel is a high rise on land.

Ok everyone, afternoon Mass today or morning Mass tomorrow and ask for His greater glory to the success of our Little Leaguers. The next game is Noon Sunday Lafayette time. We will be playing Kentucky and am not sure if they will pitch our ace Jace Conrad or they will be saving him for California Tuesday night. What a great defensive team for 11 and 12 year olds. Five go to Cathedral-Carmel, three from Edgar Martin, one each from Fatima, Judice, Ascention and Alleman. Betty we were lucky to get 7 rooms for Dwight Yoekeom Sept. 1 for family and friends. We will definitely check for future entertainment and let you guys know. Does anyone know what kind of surgerical removal J.J. is having?

"ARE WE READY FOR SOME LITTLE LEAGUE BASEBALL"? 10 A.M. central, ESPN Lafayette vs. Maine. Marc Mouton one of our Council members and a former coach of the Little League program is wagering a sack of Louisiana crawfish and some Main politician is wagering a sack of lobsters on the outcome of the game. The Lafayette team is from Broadmore subdivision very close to our home. I was a coach there for a couple of years in the early 70's while my boys were playing. Since 1972 there has only been two teams representing Louisiana. Lake Charles twice and Alexandria once. One of the grandmothers says a little prayer and places a cross on the forehead of each player before each game. They have not lost a game since she has started the ritual. Worth watching J.J. while you are convalesing.

I haven't checked the website in over a week and LOOK AT ALL THE NEWS I MISSED. One has to check in everyday to keep up. Rachael and Elizabeth were here for a visit last week. We had so much fun with them - it was great. HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY GERALD. We will all be 68 pretty soon!!!!!!!!! Doris, I know you are counting the days ----how exciting. J.J. the fresh seafood caught on the Grand Isle beaches is the best in the world. I know your surgery will be successful - you will just have to rest for a few months before tackling another remodeling job. You probably have the nicest kitchen in Grand Isle. Brenda, I haven't tried the lock thing yet. You may have to send me the directions again. Billy has some kind of "bug" and hasn't felt good for the past 2 days. I better go get his breakfast. Good job O.P. Just tuned into those old songs you posted. Our favorite was "sea of love" by Phil Philips. Earnie lived near me around Jackson St. He was two years older and went to Cathedral. I googled "Moderaires Lafayette, LA" and found this:
"The first white blues band that I became aware of, because of their introduction of music in their repertoire, was the late Phillip Comeaux and the Modernaires from Lafayette, Louisiana. Roy Perkins (Ernie Suarez) was the first white vocalist in this area to sing Rhythm n’ Blues live on stage. Roy sang with the band, which was really a swing orchestra. They played orchestrations (we called them “stocks”) half the night, and then the band would switch piano men, and play R & B for the other half. Roy released a single record entitled “You’re On My Mind” and it was a strong regional hit." WHO HAS ERNIE SUAREZ'S SINGLE? ANYONE? Never know what you'll get when you google.

Thanks for the memories, as Bob Hope used to say, J.J. I remember that particular night vividly. There were several of us gathered around a long table to the right rear of the Peacock. It must have been the later part of 1955 since I turned 18 that August. Everyone else was 17. Daniel, Pete, O.P. Darrell, Harvey and yourself were present, I think. I remember seeing all those drinks in front of me and wondering if we were going to get away with the stunt. I think Mr. Ard the owner had connections with the local law and asked them to cut us some slack. We were all good and faithful customers and our favorite place to hear the Dukes of Dixieland on Fridays and the Modernairs on Saturday's. Sunday's was Mulates in Breaux Bridge. Lafayette was shut down on Sundays and St Martin was not. Not sure why? Our prayers are with you for a speedy recovery.

Prayers and Masses will be going up for your successful surgery J.J. Talking about Grand Isle and the abundance of crab and shrimp brings back many memories. We used to go to Grand Isle as a family every summer. That is the only vacation I remember taking as a family. You could catch all the crabs you could eat and more right in the surf while swimming. All females on the Gulf side and all Males on the Bay side of the Island. We'd string a rope between two poles about 50 feet apart with string about every 5' with meat on it. We had a basket inside of a tire tube. We'd swim awhile and net crabs every now and then. When the basket was full we would bring it to shore and get another empty basket. We ate boiled crabs for breakfast, dinner and supper! Glad to hear they are still in abundance...I often wondered if we had caught them all!! Loved the female crabs with the eggs...still do.

I remember when Gerald a few months older that the rest of us was and his age was of great advantage. One night we were at the Peacock Inn and Greenberg raided the place. We pushed all of the drinks in front of Gerald. I do not think it really fooled anyone; but it made us feel better. He was the only one old enough to drink. We were not ticketed; our names were not taken and our parents were not told. Thank you Gerald; you probably kept all of us from having a rap sheet.

They are going to cut on me Friday. They cannot use Laparoscopic surgery because of previous problems. They will do the whole belly filet. I have been working like mule. I am so sore that I can hardly move. Lita and I installed complete kitchen in our place on Grand Isle. The kitchen is complete with a corian counter top. It weighed about 300 pounds. My sons helped me to put it in place. There are crabs and shrimp all over the beach at Grand Isle. They are being caught with cast nets, lines, and trawls. They are great. So are the shrimp. The shrimp are huge 10 to 20 to the pound. There are more crabs than you can eat or deal with.

J.J., I had the old type of gall bladder surgery years ago - where they open you up - I'd go for the new surgery now. That old surgery puts you out of commission for a long time. It was the most painful surgery I've ever had and believe me I've had just about every kind of surgery possible. Why don't you want the laser surgery? Well Lita came back from Costa Rico. She caught a sail fish; rode four wheelers through the jungle; went Zip lining through the tops of the rain forest; wrecked a motor scooter that she had rented; and rode a horse to the ground chasing monkeys through the forest (the owner of the horses was leading the pack.) Yes Brenda St. Martinville would have been better. I stayed home. The surgeon after several invasive test, tell me that I could have gone with my family to Costa Rico, after it was too late for me to go. . It was not as bad as he though; but he still will remover my gall bladder on the 19th. No laser surgery for me. I get the whole filet job. Lita and I have been on Grand Isle. I am replacing the kitchen. I have the cabinets, dishwasher, stove, frig in. I need to put on the corian counter top. I cannot lift it. It weighs about 400 pounds. I need to have help from my sons and about five of their friends. The plumbing and the electrical are done. I need to finish it before I go into the hospital. Had my passwords reversed and could not get on the class web site. Just returned from a three day excursion to see Glenn Campbell at the new casino in Lake Charles. Spent the night and considered the accomidations better than Beau Rivage in Mississippi and they are outstanding. Played 3 card poker and won enough to finance the trip. Returned thru Holly Beach where the water was not bad, Cameron for fresh jumbo shrimp and Pecan Island where we caught 15 dozen crabs. They were biteing near a flume that we stumbled across and at the boat dock. We had a NE cooling wind with low humidity and no mosquitos. No one can ever top J.J.'s get-a-ways however but we try.

J.J., can you honestly say that: going to Costa Rica with all of your family living in a four bedroom villa on a hill over looking the Pacific ocean, with a full time maid and a full time gardener and guard, on an isolated island, with a private pool and hot tub, furnished like a palace, a 10 passenger van and charted yacht, riding four wheelers though the jungle and riding the wire though the tree tops of the rain forest can possibly compete with three days of walking around the business district in St. Martinville in 200 degrees? Get a grip!

I'm not so adventurous. My first trip since the reunion is here in North Carolina. We are spending a long weekend (Wed - Tues) with my son, daughter-in-law and grandson. I will only miss two cardio rehab sessions and two PT sessions (shoulder). We will crab and fish off his dock on the White Oak River. We may go out in the boat in the river/bay, but won't go out into the ocean. I will be posting some pictures on my family web site soon. JJ, tell us more about your latest operation.

PARADISE LOST: For more that six months Lita and planed a dream vacation. We were going to Costa Rica with all of our children and their spouses. We had rented a four bedroom villa on a hill over looking the Pacific ocean. The villa has a full time maid and a full time gardener, guard. The villa is alone an isolated and comes complete with a private pool and hot tub . It is furnished like a palace. We also rented a 10 passenger Toyota van and charted yacht to bill fish in the Pacific. Arraignments were made to ride four wheelers though the jungle and take the ride the wire though the tree tops of the rain forest. Sounds great. All paid for in advance. Now here is the sad part. Five days before we leave I discover that the surgeons are going to filet me. The cautioned me not to go to Costa Rica. The medical care there is not up to our standards and even if they are successful, the recovery time is six weeks. Costa Rico is a nice place to vacation; but the prospect of spending weeks in a substandard hospital are less that appetizing and down right life threatening. I made Lita go. It was not a act of kindness; it was just that I could not see wasting the money. If she went only half would be lost. So it goes the best laid plans. Lita comes back from Costa Rico with bruises. The wrecked a rented motor scooter; rode a horse into the ground chasing monkeys, and caught a sail fish. She had a great time and I am envious.

I ran out of "film" in my digital camera the first day because it wasn't empty when I started. Therefore, I sent O.P. almost all of the pictures that we took, sorry about that. That church in St. Martinville has been continually a functioning parish church since it began. It is the third oldest church in Louisiana and is where the Acadians worshipped. The pews are in those boxes! I really guess that all of you who live in Lafayette are very familiar with the area, but we're not. It's a very historic area.

O.P., so sorry to hear about Julian Judice. Please keep us abreast of how he is doing. Gerald, we enjoyed 3 very hot days in south Lousiana. I have sent O.P. some pictures that we took. We really have some fabulously beautiful scenery here in Louisiana! Avery Island was so beautiful and yet, we heard that you should see it in the spring! We filled up every minute doing all of the suggested things in the brochure, even going to a play in the heart of St. Martinville put on by their Little Theater: "The Witness for the Prosecution." I wasn't expecting it to be that good, but it was great! We ate and ate and even went to that famous Black's in New Iberia. Alligators were all over Avery Island and I have sent one of my pictures taken with one of them. John wouldn't let me get closer, but he looked like a baby one. When we were in Canada, it was freezing and raining, but we didn't let that stop us from seeing everything. This weekend it was 200 degrees, but, aside from taking a rest every afternoon and reading the new Harry Potter, we saw everything!

Well, we have good news & bad news from Lafayette. The good news is in todays issue of The Independent we have a very nice article about the reunion and even a quote from O.P. The bad news is they only published one picture of the girls and captioned it "The Cathedral Carmel group". I don't think the guys will mind. Maybe we can get them to publish ours at a later date? Remember the web site to view the article and picture is www.theind.com and click on party girl. We will be leaving for Destin in the morning for a few days. Enjoy.

Doris, I love raw figs. I can't eat the preserves because (as Gerald said) the sugar content is really high. We had some friends in Kerrville who had two HUGE fig trees so if they will grow up there they should grow in Houston. I am going to plant a tree somewhere at my new house. Billy goes to the Farmer's Market and he usually comes home with a small bag of fresh figs-----they are very expensive. A small bag of about 25 figs is $2+. Worth it though----they are delicious. I'll have to try freezing figs. Marshall, that breakfast you love so much couldn't get anymore Cajun than that!!!!!!!!!
Betty
USA - Sunday, July 17, 2005 at 11:34:07 (EDT)
Doris, our figs come from many sorces this year. My oldest son (Jerry) has a large tree at his camp in Pecan Island. My youngest son (Raymond) gave us a small tree that we planted several years ago. Those figs are still pretty small. The figs were late this year and some of our friends have Aunts and Uncles that do not pick them so Pat and her friend graciously agreed to pick them. She put a little sugar on some of the raw figs and froze them. Raymond has a tree we gave him and he has birds that pick at his figs so he tied a tin foil plate to a string and tied it to one of the high branches. suppose to scare all imposters. Hope it works. You need a lot of sun and cajun soil and we have an abundance of both over here. Don't know about the soil over there.
Gerald Reaux <ggrpsr@aol.com>
Lafayette, La USA - Saturday, July 16, 2005 at 11:14:25 (EDT)
Gerald, do you have the fig trees? Charles wanted to plant some over here, but for one thing our back yard is so shaded and another I think, with all the squirrels and birds we have here, we wouldn't ever see a fig. He planted a peach and a necterine tree. I keep telling him we won't get any fruit. Now citrus is o.k., they have hard peelings. We miss having fig preserves so much. When we were living in Lafayette we always had them. I would put ripe raw figs in the freezer and my kids were always eating frozen figs.

19 pints and 2 quarts were perserved yesterday and about half that much remains to be cooked today. Pat picked them, I washed them, she cooked them and all of our 17 Reaux people will eat them. The raw figs are good for you. The perserves are high in sugar. We like them with cornbread and milk. Those cajuns knew how to live and if we got to go we will die happy.

The hail hitting the glass did make a wierd musical sound ---- I thought that was where the sound was coming from, but I wasn't sure. NO, WE AREN'T MOVING TO RIVER RANCH--its pretty out there but seems congested to us -----we are moving to another gated community called The Oaks---its off Pinhook across the street from Bank One (I think its Bank One). Its on the same side of the street as Mouton Gardens. The street into The Oaks is called Mossy Oaks. Going South on Pinhook there is St. Mary Blvd. going into Mouton Gardens, Butcher Street (back entrance to the Oaks), Bayou Street (dead end), Mossy Oaks (the gated entrance), Demande, etc. Our house here at Myrtle Square is two story and none of the baths and halls are handicapped so I decided to build something with everything on one floor and handicap the halls and baths just in case. Upstairs is for storage. We aren't moving very far. I wanted to move up north to be near Elizabeth (Philadelphia), but Billy REFUSED to move up north!!!!!!:))))))))

Yes Gerald, it was Lee Furniture. You know they have built, just this year, here in the Woodlands a shopping area with movie, resturaunts, ice cream shop and Town Square and shops with sidwalks and parking on the streets called Market Street. It reminds me so much of a small town "Main Street". Of course we have here in the Woodlands, areas called villages and in each village has a "Village Center" along with shops of every kind and Dr.'s and Dentist and Vet. and everything you need in that center. It really is neat living here.

Very interesting to hear about Landry's cafe. Was it Lee Furniture near your dad's restaurant? Funny how Jefferson St. was the center of almost everything in those day's. Now it is composed of mostly bars and has so much late traffic on Sat. nights that they make it one way to handle the overload overload. It was on Jefferson St. In those days right next door to a furniture Store, that I can't think of the name right now. Anyway it was three doors down from the Evangeline Hotel. There was the hotel, Western Union, the furniture store than Dad's cafe. His big clientele was the employee's from Abdalla's, Montgomery Wards, and all the stores down on Jefferson St. in that area. He specielized in plate lunches, for like .60 and of course the usuall, sandwiches, hamburgers, etc. Everyone from those stores would come in three times a day. For coffee and biscuits in the morning, plate lunches and afternoon coffee. He would close the cafe at 8:00 because there was no business in the evening. But he was there at 5:00 in the morning, making biscuits and cooking lunch. When he died in 1949 my mother took over for a few years, with my brothers helping her, they were in college then. I worked a little, like helping her clean tables and cleaning up at the end of the day. It turned out to be too much for her though and she had to sell it. Dad had other resturaunts when I was little. He owned the bus station resturaunt and managed that until it burned when I was 3 or 4 years old. But the one I remember the most was "Landry's Cafe" on Jefferson St.

We owe all our soldiers, the ones of today and the ones of yesteryears, so much for giving of themselves. O.P. thanks for putting my news on the webpage. Gerald, that was your Dad's resturaunt wasn't it. I never knew back then that our Dad's were in the same business.

Marshall did you remember Reaux's Cafe on the corner across from Voorhies Roof Garden? He catered to S.L.I. students. He would sell meal tickets for $5.00 and it would usually last a week. Lunch was 65 cents and if you wanted a steak you could substitute a t-bone for the same price which included a salad french fries and ice tea. He was in the Restaurent business for 12 years and later worked 18 years at Jacob's four corners.

OK, now that O.P. put those archived links up, I was able to find Avis's message dated August 4, 2000----she has all the information there. We did have a banquet in our Senior year and it was held at Poorboy's Riverside Inn. I think the theme was the Far East----does anyone remember it? I have no recollection of that so I guess I didn't go to it. She listed all the graduation parties----we did indeed have a lot of parties.

By the way I do remember Voorhies Roof Garden. I used to pass by it on the way to my Dad's Garage further down on "Oak Ave" at that time...across from what is now Guidry's Hardware store. Voorhies Roof Garden was across the street from "Batson Trahan's" house. Remember him? He had a huge red birthmark across his face. I think Voorhies later became a car dealership...Dodge???

Betty as far as my memory serves me, I remember having a date with you for the Cathedral Prom. I think we did have a discussion about the "other" picture in which I am picured with the "mysterious" girl! I don't remember that occasion or the Banquet and Breakfast occasions!!! I think I had a date with Carleen for one of the Proms???? Could that have been the JR Prom? I thought we had the Proms together...Cathedral/Carmel???? The one I remember was the one in the new gym at Cathedral....so that would have to be our senior prom right?

Didn't we have this discussion once before about the Senior Event. If it was another banquet WHERE WAS IT HELD ----WHAT WAS THE THEME. IF it was a prom WHERE AS IT HELD ----WHAT WAS ITS THEME. Maybe that will jog some memories. Avis, where are you??????? And Patsy---And Gayle. Robert, if you are reading this please ask Gayle to help us clear this up. I've called Carleen, but she isn't at home. Betty

O.P., Yes, J.J. sent in that picture because it isn't a picture I had. I think he and Carleen had a date-----if you look in the bottom right corner of the picture you will see Carleen and J.J. I had a date with Parker McKnight that evening (a Lafayette High guy--- who was later shot down and killed in Viet Nam---do any of you remember him). I wonder who is sitting next to Carleen ---Doris, do you recognize anyone in these pictures? I might be sitting right across from Carleen, but you can't see me. Picture No. 2 that O.P. refers to "Mixing it Up" ----I have no recollection of that event AT ALL ----I guess I'm in there somewhere, but I really don't remember it.

Yes, Doris, I did send in those pictures. The Jr.-Senior Banquet was in May 1954 and it was at the old Evangeline Hotel-------I think the old Gordon Hotel was the one in the middle of town (or do I have them confused). Anyway, I don't remember any banquet our Senior year, but perhaps I didn't attend since we had just moved back from Jennings after my daddy died (in Jennings). There is a picture of me and Marshall in our living room that Mother took ----I labeled that Cathedral Prom and I know that was in our Senior year -----Marshall can you remember if it was the Cathedral Prom or Mt. Carmel prom. Seems like in one of the pictures labeled SCathedral Prom you had a date with another girl. O.P., I have sent all the pictures I have, but I will look some more when I start packing all the boxes to move next month. We aren't moving out of town---its just about 2 miles from here.

O.P. that was our Junior year. We gave the seniors that banquet. I remember the decorations, because we made them in my garage. It was a mexican theme. Remember girls? Notice in the picture there are some girls who finished the year before us. Pat did you finish two years after us or the year after us. You would know where our senior banquet was if you were in the class of '56. Oh and by the way Betty, Cathedral had the Prom and Mt Carmel had a Banquet.

Welcome, Gloria and Darryl ---- its really good to hear from you. Gerald, now that you mention it I kind of remember the bamboo ----what were they trying to do----hide the club!!!!!!!! Were the Modernaires Phil Comeaux's band? I guess they tore the old club down when they built the Holiday Inn. Did the road continue on to New Iberia or just go off into the "country" ----I don't think I ever went further than the Peacock Inn. It was a fun dancing joint. Did any of you ever go to the Pelican Club (I think that was the name of it) in New Iberia?

Had lunch with a friend and former basketball player our age from St. Cecelia, Blaise Armentor. He advised me that the Peacock was right off the old Airport road just past Holiday Inn on property at the time belonging to Aubrey Henderson. We remembered the stand of bamboo (sp) at the enterance on both sides. I also remember that the Modernairs would play every Sat. night and the Dukes of Dixieland every Fri. night. Mr. Frank Ard was the operator and always opened a fifth of champaigne for every birthday. We all had very little money but plenty of birthdays. Ha. Those were the days.

I don't understand it either, O.P. I know a lot of people read it, but they just won't write. Where exactly would the old Peacock Night Club be located if it still existed. Would it be on airport property or is it where the Holiday Inn is now. I keep trying to figure it out and better minds than mine might remember. Oh, I have a question for Gayle. Gayle was your daddy's farm just north or near the Northgate Mall? Carleen said it was in Cankton. I remember driving out there with you all a couple times, but I don't remember it being in Cankton ----maybe your daddy had two farms.

O.P. has given you more information than I could have! I would agree with him that the private sector would probably give him more benefits than he will get from the Government. Congress has full very comfortable retirement packages and medical benefits, but don't seem to think the military deserve as much! Example: 9/11 Victims got $1.7 million because they went to work and lost their lives. A military person gives 30 years of their life to the military and when he/she dies the family MIGHT get $250,000, IF they continued to pay their monthly premiums!!! However medical services from the Military Hospitals and VA in my experience has been TOPs!

Doris, Betty & Brenda. I would have to do more research about medical benefits for wounded Veterans to give you good information. My best estimate is that the Government doesn't do enough for them (write your congressman/senators). I know they have Veterans Admin (VA) benefits, but I suspect it is not anywhere near what Christopher Reeves got. That is why there are so many new NON-Government organizations springing up to help wounded Vets. Two that come to mind are: http://WoundedWarriorProject.org, and http://www.WoundedWarriorHospitalFund.org/ . You may find others at my http://TroopsSupport.com or the official DoD Troop Support Site at: http://AmericaSupportsYou.mil/. Marshall may have more info.

But I think that is all good. I has been just 3 weeks. Maybe with prayers he will be able to walk again. I'm not really sure about the insurance for these soldiers that are hurt so severly. Maybe O.P. or Marshall would know. The Advertiser also gave his address if anyone wanted to send him a card. Doris, I have thought so much about Brandon Sullivan and wondered how he was doing. I haven't seen the article in the paper so I don't know the details. The thing that worries me is, if he is a quadraplegic, how will he get the care he needs for the rest of his life. Just received my DVD from O.P. Pat and I watched it in awe. It was almost like watching a short movie being filmed, directed and produced by O.P. and delivered to your door step free of charge. How can we ever repay him for all he has done? Marshall here are the results of the golf tournment. Team #2 composed of Larry Miller, Harvey Broussard, Carroll Comeaux, Kearney Leger and O.P. (putt only) were 8 under par. Team #3 composed of Gerald Reaux, Billy Sunday, Phil Leblanc, Donald Deshotel and Charles Provost were also 8 under par. Team #1 composed of Harold Latiolais, Holland Hebert, Roland Trahan and Jullian Judice were 4 under par, but they were a man short and did not complain. Kearney won closest to the hole on #17 (13') and Donald won the door prize. A graciously hosted gettogether by Donald and Essie for all the participants was enjoyed by all that eveing.

Thank you, Minette and Larry, for those new pictures. There were pictures of some of the people who weren't in the others. It is more exciting to see or read about someone new for a change. Having said that, I hesitate to answer Betty's question about the dog house Stephen designed. It's called the "Ultimate D.I.Y. Doghouse" and is kind of quirky. It basically looks like a dog with four feet, two "ears" and a tail. I didn't notice them until he pointed them out to me.

If you are walking through a magazine section of a store, you might look at Pages 75 and 76 of Budget Living magazine (June/July). The editor asked Stephen to design a dog house which he did. It might be online soon at their site, but they still have the April/May issue on it.

I got an e-mail from Jared today. He didn't tell me how he felt. But I figure if he had to go to the internet cafe to e-mail me he must be feeling o.k. I really don't know, maybe he is able to use his laptop. He said the mortar attack on camp Liberty this week was actually not far from him. But he said not to worry. YEAH, RIGHT. There is so much a Mom doesn't know. He sees the Dr. again Mon.

We also need Suzanne, Patsy and Carleen's comments, too. GAYLE WE NEED TO KNOW THE ANSWER - you should be getting home tomorrow so by Monday we should her from you-----right?????? As Brenda said, we could use some help here. Doris, I didn't remember it being Mardi Gras day. Remember the big red crawfish shaped signes we nailed to the telephone posts?
Betty
USA - Friday, June 03, 2005 at 22:16:17 (EDT)
Betty, I know you are right about the crawfish. I certainly can remember peeling all those crawfish!!!! I can remember the moms cooking it in the cafeteria. Maugie's mom gave the recipe,(right Maugie?) we served it on Mardi Gras day and everyone said it was as good as DON'S, Ha it was Don's recipe. I'm pretty sure you are right about the new Curtain for the stage, too. Come on, Gayle, are we right? I can remember your mom, with one of the sister's apron on cooking in there. Are was that another time?
Doris

I don't remember either the gift nor the crawfish very well, Betty. However, I KNOW that there is a Mt. Carmel classmate reading this website who does know. Didn't Gayle say that she frequently knows the answer to some of the questions asked on the site? Maybe Minette, Rosella, Dell, Carleen, Janet, Avis or any of the other friends who are reading this stuff could tell us. If they only knew how happy all of us would be to have other people contributing to this site. We have kept it going for 5 years and could use some help!

Does anyone remember what our senior gift was to Mt. Carmel ------was I right about the curtain for the stage??????? Didn't we raise the money by having that crawfish dinner----do yall remember peeling all those crawfish in Jackie Mequet's garage ----it was sooooo cold that day too. How many pounds of boiled crawfish did we peel that day? Someone has to remember ----the number 500 lbs sticks in my head, but that can't be possible. Refresh my memory ----- Brenda and Doris, do you remember? And Jackie's mother boiled all those crawfish in her kitchen too.

Brenda, I really don't know how he is doing. If he has to stay in his room I probably won't hear from him until Sun., when he sees the Dr. again, because he doesn't have his cell phone anymore. They can't use them. And he has to go to the "internet cafe".( A room with nothing but computers ) to e-mail me. So I will just have to wait. I have this feeling that he will be all right. I feel that if it were serious, someone else would have called us by now. Charles said "Well at least we know he isn't on the streets of Baghdad right now." But if I know Jared he is probably very upset that he isn't doing his job. The Dr.'s found blood in his urine, but my daughter-in-law who is a nurse said that is normal for a trauma to the abdomen. But it is possible he has a hernia. We will find out in time. We just have to pray. Thank you so much for the concern and the prayers. It helps us to cope knowing that there are people like all of you out there. By the way I can't tell you how much all the support that people give our troops means to them. When Jared came home on leave and people in the airport clapped and cheered, all of the guys in uniform were just beaming. It means so much to them.

It was on a cable, and he was guiding the tire and the cable broke, the tire hit his head and abdomen. The Dr. is keeping him in his room for 5 days when he will be re-examined. Prayers needed!!! O.P. I asked if he had seen Brooks. I was hoping that he would never have to go to the medics.

Betty, you're welcome! You, too, were a hostess as a Lady of the Committee, serving a delicious fruit salad. Also, thanks to Patsy & Suzanne, as well as Maugie for her T'Frere's Tea Julep, Minette for the homemade pastries (so good, we had to hide them from Larry & Paul), and Jackie for her $$s contribution. It was great being together for lunch -- all 23 out of the 24 Mt. Carmel "girls" who attended the Reunion. Carolyn Leger was the only Cathedral wife who visited with us -- thought we'd see more of you all. My camera was on the blink, so would any of you who took any good pictures (especially the group one) send them to O.P. for the C/C website?

Apparently your memory is still crystal clear. I told Donald Deshotel about what you remembered and he agreed. Now, he did not think of it himself but said he remembered the event. I suppose you might call that a partial corroboration. Also maybe not all of our class attended the move, but you probably did. Sounds logical to me so lets believe it.

Here is one from the President today in the Memorial Day Ceremony at Arlington Cemetary: " As we look across these acres, we begin to tally the cost of our freedom, and we count it a privilege to be citizens of the country served by so many brave men and women. Congratulations on a job well done it was just perfect. And so many people came. I am sorry for the ones who couldn't make it. It was really just PERFECT. Sorry we couldn't make a couple of the festivities, but we had committed ourselves to family events. Thanks for the recognition of our 50 years of wedded Bliss. We appreciate it. During the dinner/dance, Avis, Mary and I went to the girl's room. When we came back everything looked and sounded the same. Now I see that apparently eveyone was waiting until we left the room for the festivities to begin. I had no idea until now when I saw the pictures that Rickey, O.P., Gerald, and Suzanne made speeches. I didn't know that O.P. was given a well deserved plaque of appreciation from all of us for the work he has done to keep us together. I can't believe that we were gone so long!!!! If any of you are reading this website who did not attend our reunion weekend, you could feel VERY sad that you missed a WONDERFUL two days (for some it was three). I hate to single out the people who deserve the most thanks because as sure as I do, I will leave out someone that I don't know about. I do know about Sue, Patsy, Gerald and Henrietta. They do their missions with two platoons and today the other platoon, not his, was hit. He couldn't tell me the details. USA - Friday, May 20, 2005 at 10:32:56 (EDT)
Betty/Marshall, the glitches you mention are NOT from this web site. Betty's problem is likely from the fact that she uses AOL. I think I explained that a very long time ago. Many have forgotten. Here it is again: AOL uses their own "cache" computers. When you access a web site through AOL, they store that information on their "cache" computers. How they "refresh" them is a complete mistery, but the results are not good for the users because you frequently DON'T get the latest information from the web sites you frequently visit. You may be seeing old info/web pages from time to time. Marshall, I don't think this site has "remember me" capability for passwords like the MSN was supposed to have. The site works on the http security capability of the Web Browser you use. The IE browser normally "remembers" you as long as you are logged in or until your "quit" the IE browser. HOWEVER, sometimes it gets confused when the web site is run in "frames" (eg, left frame, right frame) as this one is. I hope this is not too techie for you guys.

Brenda, the cross was to the northeast in the back of the church in Grande Pre. It is way back in a field. Luckily Chuck and Roxanne had been there before and they knew where to bring us. Also we went in July so the weather was warm and pretty.

Doris, the day that we were at Grand Pre it was raining and freezing. We looked for that cross because everyone had told us to see it. However, no one was around to show us where it was and so we had to leave without seeing it. I am anxious to go to St. Martinville to continue my history lesson.

O.P., is the username and password case sensitive (how's that for computer speak) because I had trouble getting in-----let me know if that is what I was doing wrong. I like this old website ----its hard to teach "old" dogs new tricks.

Brenda, now you must visit St. Martinsville. There is a wonderful display of the Acadians who came down and their story. Did you get to see the cross at Grande Pre where the Acadians were shipped from. Well there is one like it in St. Martinsville.

O.K. O.P. ignore my e.mail and my IM's. I tried to "sign on" before you had set up the new site! This definitely works quicker!

Thanks, O.P., even I might be able to use this message site. About my trip to Nova Scotia--my two sisters and I were there for 8 days and, aside from the freezing temperature and rain, it was probably the best trip that I've taken. I think anyone from Louisiana would feel right at home over there. The people are so friendly and helpful and they have the same accents that we have. The grave yards are full of Melancon's, Dugas', Comeau's, and so forth. We traced our Broussard ancestor, Beausoleigh Broussard, and found his name in records. However, we didn't find ONE Broussard in the grave yards we visited. We have to think that all of them were transported and didn't return. It does make you want to brush up on our Acadian history.

I have to admit this guestbook was much easier to use. Change at our age is always difficult. Thanks for being cybersavy O.P. Looks like we will get rain for the next several days to decrease the likelyhood of getting some the following weekend. Who say's catholic school does not pay off?
